Leptospirosis
Leptospirosis also referred to as "lepto," is a highly contagious bacterial illness that can cause sickness in the liver, kidneys, and lungs.
Because leptospirosis is contagious, protecting your dog will also protect you.
Leptospirosis is mainly spread through direct or indirect contact with infected urine from another animal.
When infected animals urinate, the bacteria are released into the environment, contaminating it.
The bacteria can enter your dog's body through abrasions or cuts in the skin after exposure to infected urine, blood, placenta, or polluted water or soil.
Fever, shaking, muscle pain, dehydration, vomiting, diarrhoea, loss of appetite, lethargy, or jaundice are all symptoms to watch out for.
It's critical to contact your veterinarian right away if you notice your dog exhibiting any of these symptoms-delaying treatment for too long could result in severe kidney or liver damage, as well as death.
Fortunately, leptospirosis is rather simple to avoid.
The best way to protect your dog against leptospirosis is to vaccinate them.
A lepto vaccine is not often included in a standard immunization program, so ask your veterinarian about it if you're concerned.
