Kennel Cough
Canine infectious tracheobronchitis, also known as kennel cough, is a highly contagious respiratory disease in dogs.
It may spread quickly among dogs in the close quarters of a kennel or animal shelter, so dog parks, training groups, and doggy daycares are all possible breeding grounds.
Young puppies, elderly dogs, and unvaccinated dogs are the most vulnerable.
A runny nose, sneezing, fatigue, mild temperature, loss of appetite, and a loud cough t are the most common symptoms to watch for.
While kennel cough symptoms are typically mild-and the condition is easily treatable-symptoms like these should always be reported to your veterinarian since they can occasionally be indicators of more serious illnesses.
Treatment consists of a few weeks of rest, antibiotics, and maybe a cough suppressant to alleviate symptoms.
Fortunately, there are steps you may take to reduce the chances of them developing kennel cough.
The Bordetella Bacterium, which is the most prevalent cause of kennel cough, has a vaccination available.
So, if you know your dog will be going to a doggie day-care or boarding facility, make sure they're up to date on their vaccinations!
